Have you ever found yourself reaching out for the same products every day when applying your makeup? Trust me, you are not alone. With the ever emerging beauty trends that flood our timelines every day, I find myself still being a creature of habit and reaching for the same loved items time and time again. I’ve been in the beauty game for about 15 years and then some, yet firm favourites will always resurface in my makeup kit. These are what we influencers or bloggers refer to as our ‘staple’ items. What can you not live without make up wise?
For some it’s the foundation that hides away the blemishes on our skin in various gradients. The full coverage for those nights out on the town to stripping it back for the ‘day/work’ look we know and love – fresh but simple. I think for me, my confidence with makeup grew when I learnt to understand what my base (foundation) meant for both my skin and the look I was aiming to achieve. It took me years to figure out the finishes I prefer based on my skin type, and in turn, I was able to offer better recommendations to others.
Learn about your skin and it’s functionality i.e: oily, combination or normal/dry. By doing this, you will immediately find yourself drawn to a specific product finish. Being combination with the oily t-zone areas (nose and forehead) and drier around the cheeks, go for products that are semi dewy, not matte. These will minimise the appearance of the shine where it is already shiny, but also highlight the dull areas and bring them to life. The choices available from leading brands is vast now so there is definitely something for everyone. Explore and experiment. You may not get it right the first time, but the process is fun.
