From the catwalk to the street, this hair clip trend is for everyone.
As fashion week draws to a close and we reflect back on the looks that have graced the runways, it is interesting to recognise those that have taken to the streets surrounding the shows. Journalists and editors all well versed with what the designers are presenting are ready to pick up on the zeitgeist paving the way for what will come next. Whilst each being unique and individual, these guests are in the same world, all visiting the same shows throughout fashion week and absorbing similar inspiration. So it is inevitable that there would be some recurring themes.
Unlike previous seasons where the clothes have taken full focus, this season saw all attention on the details. The hair which is usually left to the experts working backstage at the fashion shows, can be seen being restyled outside the show space. Popular styles include oversized clips embellished with pearls worn in a pair or trio clipped at the temple with soft waves or a high bun. Simone Rocha has been building up the momentum for these hair clips over the past few seasons but has taken it a step further in her most recent AW19 collection. By styling the models with sparkling tiaras and pearl barrettes paying homage to artist Louise Bourgeois. The diverse cast including Adut Akeh and Lily Cole, show that these hair clips can be styled on different hair types and lengths.
Yelena Grelet seen queuing outside the Izzue show on Friday wears two hair slides embellished with diamantes reading the words ‘Sweet’. Grelet states, “I find it difficult to find new ways to style my hair type, (Afro) but these clips allow me to add a bit of sparkle.” Combined with blue Mom jeans layered with a mesh tiered skirt and black jumper, the hair clips add a sense of glamour to this otherwise casual look.
